Will somebody pleeeease go catch me a game fish so that I’ve got something to write about? Taking on a game fishing column during the run-up to Winter is now looking like a very bad idea!

Give your skirts a lift

The shredded rubber, vinyl and other material that makes up most of our trolling lure skirts is pretty flimsy and apt to get damaged, torn or simply chopped clean off by our finny friends. Happily, replacing them is not that difficult.

Comfort in the cold

Compared to the comforts of Summer, the cooler months can be a little hard to take. It's not that the fishing is bad; it's just that the frosty starts can be a bit of shock to the system.

Rug up and enjoy

The best advice I can give for Winter is to get a good set of warm, dry wet weather clothing and get out there, because the bread-and-butter species around Port Stephens have been biting their heads off.

Reasons to get out of bed

We’ve had some pretty crisp mornings on the water when the word cold, well, just really doesn’t explain it, but in truth it’s been a great start to Winter.

Perfect for bream

The Manning area has experienced quite a bit of southerly weather over the last few weeks, limiting offshore, beach and rock fishing but it has had little effect on the estuary.
