Hi guy,

I am looking to buy a Minnkota maxxum 74 or 80lb bowmount, or a 24v motorguide in similar cable steer and thrust.

Prefer shorter shaft designed for bass boats, but not essential. Good to VGC.

Re: Get Set for the 2010 Barra Calender

Matt, I fall into the catagory of cant get enough/split holidays to do it...but thats my problem. I think (just my opinion) for this year leave it as it is, and start getting dates sorted for next year....or at least have them sorted late this year for the 2011 tour under the new concept if thats th...

Re: The sport of fishing

James, thats pretty sad to see mate. 8 dead!....you probably remember the fish kills a few years back, I reckon we lost about 200 or so at Monduran (got off lightly compared to Awoonga and especially Lenthals)...since then I reckon I have seen the odd one every couple of trips, but not 8 or more...I...

Re: The sport of fishing

Totally agree with the kids skulling fish in off the bank. We used to do that out west with handlines on yellowbelly  Like you said, you definatley get more hookups using lighter gear, and the bustoffs too. Its a fine line, which does require more skill. I think you will really notice it when t...

Re: The sport of fishing

I certainly can see the merit in your questions and they are worth asking too. With relation to the barra, a bit of history could hopefully easy your mind a little. Impoundment barra fishing is a relatively new sport. In its humble and esky filling beginings, impoundment barra were relatively easy t...

Blackie was a top bloke and a true gentleman of the sport! he was one of the ABT original bass blokes was always willing to help anyone at anytime in the spirit of the scene. I remember fishing and socialising with Blackie back in my days at Mullet Gut Marine in Toowoomba, and he was the funniest bu...

I like Mikes idea regarding the team format entry remaining the same to keep numbers even. I like Steve M's idea of 1 session, mabey a second somewhere in the tour dedicated to boater/non boater just to mix it up. Awoonga evening event would be perfect. Like Jas said, that gives everyone a chance to...

I too just completed the whole tour and enjoyed it, even though the fishing was tough. Big thanks to Simon (north tour), Marcel and Chris for the southern legs for all their effort particularly with some tough decisions to make at times. couple of ideas. 1. keep the undersize as counting fish. Those...

PJ, I am a Gin gin local (and it wasn't me by the way :) ) I think thats pretty ordinary form from what I read. Their is enough room at the bottom of all the ramps to put 2 boats to the side until you launch your boat. Its even more disgusting that they weren't even close to being ready to retrieve ...

barra tour

To help boost numbers in both northern and southern, possibly work on a non boater/partner system where southern fisherman could team up with someone from the north area and share their boat and LOCAL knowledge for the northern leg. Then reciprocate the favour back down the southern leg. Plane flight...

I used to use spiderwire stealth, it was excellent. Now use 50lb FINS for barra and have never broken it. Casts like 20lb braid and has awesome knot strength. I reckon you could easily get away with 30lb FINS too. Awesome reel, deserves good braid.

yeah moggy is right, dont trust cheap rod holders, or even cheap gear for that matter! these fish have awesome power. I just got back from awoonga. two of use caught 29 fish in two days, three nights trolling and casting plastics! 21 were over 110cm with the biggest 3 fish being 118cm. all trolling ...
