BK's Australian Gold Coast Fishing Charters Fishing Report and Tips. 06-12-05.
Spotted Mackerel have arrived en mass, on time, last week on the Gold Coast, great sport and even better to eat, on the close coastal rocky reefs - but are spooking easily, lures must be set long, so as to keep the boat 30 to 40 metres to the side of the working school to then turn to pull the lures only through the working school, hard to do when there are other boats on the reef area so look for the fish working between Palm Beach Reef and the Gravel Patch, they are not on reefs, therefore no/less boats. Floating pillies on light lines under 6 kgs on a single 3/0 saltwater hook has worked the best. USE "GREEN" FLOAT TECHNIQUES. "Don't destroy what you came to enjoy." Non biodegradable floats are harmful to marine life, add to visual pollution and are also illegal pollutants - you can be fined, for example - polystyrene cubes and balloons that break free into the environment are pollutants. BK's solution - if you must use floats, we try not to, use real cork instead of polystyrene and as with balloons used as sails, tie them on some how, we use a strong rubber band so they may be retrieved as opposed to the common practice of using fishing line with slip knots on balloons and slits in polystyrene that allow their release into the environment when a fish takes the bait. If you know of other solutions please email me at bk@bksfishing.com.au .

FLOAT TIPS from BKs Gold Coast Fishing Charters. Re EPA have been warning Gold Coast fishos/us included that if float breaks away you can be fined. Anyhow we prefer to do the greener thing. We now use 2 strong rubber bands and a reusable cable tie, the balloon always comes back. When using polystyrene we now use a larger firmer/stronger piece and the two rubber bands and reusable cable tie and its all stays on the line and is retrievable. Of advantage as well it makes chasing larger fish with the boat easer in poor vision as you just follow the float. Cheers from BKs. Best solution possible is find a different charter people. These guys are totally disrespectful to other fishos, will continually run over others lines intercept their drift and cause arguements.
Just a hads up there's plenty great charters running out the Gold Coast support respectful charter operators
