Sinker moulds

Post by Rod B » Wed Oct 12, 2005 10:41 pm

Hi, there are several different brand moulds available, usually from UK sources. Here are urls for a couple:

Gemini moulds

Ron Thompson moulds / DCA copy?

I have another brand "Ajusti" a 4 in one that make a 3.5, 4.5, 5.5, 6.5 oz /
70. 100, 130 and 160 gram breakout type sinker.

I cant find a link for it as of now but I will work on it and post again later. I bought it un-drilled and this pic was taken as it was a work in progress.

Thanks for that Rod.
Gemini standard sinkers are available in Australia, or were, and AFAIK they still are. The cones, tails and wires are imported and the lead is poured out here. A guy in Gosford makes them in sizes 3, 4 and 5 ounce but they retail somewhere in the region of 4 to 5 dollars. Very rarely seen in tackle retailers. He also used to bring out the Gemini clips but I have never seen them in retail stores.
Surecatch (Wilson & Sons in Brisbane) make a breakout sinker in the smaller sizes. Called Breakaway (which they aren't) and pretty basic; they are available in local tackle shops and retail about the dollar mark.
The Breakaway Impact sinkers, with their inbuilt bait clip which releases the baited hook 100% of the time are fantastic but lead isn't cheap to ship from the UK and apart from a flat 60 gram sinker with no wires the smallest wired Impact sinker is 150 grams.
I personally use individual DCA moulds in 3,4,5 and 6 ounce, drilled for wires, and there is no doubt that rolling your own is the way to go.
Cheers
John

I got some proper breakaways with impact caps and wires in 3, 4 ,5 oz from Joe Pullella in WA. He has tackle stores in Perth and used to be on this board as joefish.
