anyone had any experience with these reels? i'm looking to use one as a surf casting reel. seems like a good cheaper alternative to a trinidad 20. as much as i like my 525 supermag extra. its just not suited to fishing for inedibles.
cheers

The 545 and 555 have only two small plastic brake blocks and can be pretty lively.

I developed a single mag unit for them but unsure am whether they are still available with K2 buying out Penn.

Would be interested to know what the problem is with your 525 Mag Xtra

hey black beard.
525 is a great little casting reel, but for me thats about it. i find the retrieve too slow (small spool) to attract many of our high speed pelajics when throwing a lure. secondly it does not hold enough line, even using braid backing.
cheers.

have you looked at the 535 mag? 365m of .40 line vs the 525s 250m of line.

just bought a trinidad 30 dc. this week; slight loss of casting distance but seems to be a top fishing reel.
cheers

Hey there goat,
i recently got myself a TN20 DC and initially I thought I was loosing a bit of distance than my magged reels. I have a 545 that I have made an ajustable mag for and could cast it alot further than the DC. However with some more hours casting the DC I am now getting much further than I could with the 545. I love the reel, (how's the sound! ) I have found the reel likes to be hit very hard at the end of the cast. Load up the rod and give it heaps. The reel loves it. Jeremy turned me onto the Shimano Technium line and I am an instant convert. 32lb (14.5kg) Technium is thinner than 10kg Penn 10x and in my opinion casts alot better. I got 300mts of 30lb braid under 300 mts of 32lb mono topshot on the 20.
Regards
Blue

Hello blue 13
I've had the 30 for over a month now and am very happy with it. Got 600 yds of braid and 250m of platypus super 100 on top (30 lbs) use it most days and have stripped it down three times to see how the insides are coping, all seems well.
cheers
