which mag reel

Post by mulloway » Mon Apr 27, 2009 7:59 pm

Have a 525 super mag extra that i find easy to cast and a 30 th saltist that after washing the bearings and adding 20w 50 oil in the bearings still having overruns.Unless i can get someone to mag the saltist im looking at buying another reel. For most of my fishing the 525 is a bit short on line capacity so looking at possibly the 535 mag or one of the avets ,possibly the mxl 5.8.Using the reels on Posiodon graphite rods .Been able to squeese 280 mtrs on the 525 with braid backing but prefer about 400 mtrs.Any help appreciated.

regards Graeme.

Have a look at the Daiwa Tournament Mag 7ht. It's around ABU 6000 size (ie 300m of 0.35mm line). It's a distance casting reel with the mag not slowing it down too much even when on full. I found it quite easy to control and get 100+m casts with a 3oz lead and a whole pilchard (clipped down with a pulley rig).

Try out the 30 Saltiga Surf with the red spool .... I've never had a overun on it. Fantastic reel that casts a lot further then my old magcast reel.
