Round 5 of the Daiwa Hobie BREAM Kayak was held the weekend of 18th-19th February on picturesque St Georges Basin.

47 kayaks hit the water on Saturday the 18th February for the first day of the two day round. Chris Burbidge was top of the board after day one with a 3/3 2.12kg bag.

Sunday bought another beautiful St Georges Basin day for the second half of SSBS qualifying round 2.

By the end of the competition, Victorian Matt Petrie (Scott Lovig Hobie) came from 6th place after day one to take first place with a 6/63.93kg bag. Matt secured himself the $1500 winners cheque, Hobie Prize Pack and Shimano Rod/Reel combo. Matt also qualified for the Hobie ABT kayak grand final and booked himself a spot in the Kayak World Championships to be held in USA next year.

http://www.lureandfly.com angler Josh Carpenter took second place in the kayak section, with a very respectable 6/6 3.855kg bag, including a monster 1.39kg specimen which saw Josh also take home the Basin Lure and Fly Anglers Big Bream Kayak cash. Josh will also be heading to the USA for the world championships as the second placed angler for this round.

Jason Lambert rounded out the podium for the kayak section with a very nice 6/6 3.75kg bag. Jason and Josh have both qualified for the Hobie ABT kayak grand final at the Bemm River in November.
