Question about sea lice?

Post by smcc » Mon Apr 03, 2006 11:33 am

I have been fishing recently at Mordialloc pier and the sea lice have been that bad that everyone basically packs up and goes home because they strip the bait from your hook within a few minutes.

I was using blue bait, squid and I even tried a Gulp 6" worm and they eat that as well.

Do the sea lice come at certain times of the day, weather conditions etc? or do they just get bad a random times?

Sea lice in Port Phillip Bay come with the territory. Assume that your bait will last 10 minutes before being mauled, so change to a new fresh bait every 10 minutes. As long as you have a fresh bait in the water you have a chance with the fish which do not seem to be affected by lots of sea lice hanging around.
