I am moving shortly to Mackay and have been told it is very good for fishing. I am looking forward to it - for the ten years I have been here from Zimbabwe, my family and I have been hopeless fishermen so we are looking for a change of luck. Does anyone know of any guides, or where the best place would be to start. Inshore and river fishing suit us the best as I have a Bayliner 175 and we are unsure on the open sea.

Hi, You could try Flat Top Island just outside the harbour it is about 1.5km off the shore and also about 27km further out from the harbour there is St.Bees and Keswick Islands.
First check that you know what the fishing limitations are regarding those locations there are also a couple of shoals around the Flat Top Island area as well. There should also be a heap of charter boats that go out from Mackay so you may want to go on one just to see where they go.
