A few new ones

Post by Alistair » Sat Aug 01, 2009 6:06 pm

Confirmation on a few of these would be great if you can help out. Raided a mates tackle box the other night and bought a few lures off him. Pick up a couple of Newell Bassrats which was only fair seeming I got them for him to begin with

Here are 2 he has had for about 20yrs. Total length is 6cm. i believe they are a Killalures. Yes? And model name that can be put to them?

Image

Grabbed this surface lure which I think is a TaylorMade Surface breaker?

Not sure on this one. Plastic I think. very nice paintjob. Deception Shrimp?

Image

And have this ID'ed but thought I should post it. A Voblex 10 from France. he has another 3 that have never seen water as well.

Image

And just to show them off  I am glad my mate did not fish much as they are in good nick.

Top 2 I think are Killalures as suspected Al - I think the small version you have is called the trout bait?

You'd best send them to me and I'll make certain

Tagged would know for sure I'd say ;-)

A few nice scores there mate!
Cheers,
Tony

Thanks Tony, but they are currently enjoying the NSW area. I must admit, they are a nice little lure which perhaps should see me look at chasing down some QLD lures and competing with you for them

The top two are Bream Baits, the only difference to the Trout is the bib.
The purple is in the Mystery lures section under Deceptive. It's not a Deception Lure though. Would be nice if Paul Kneller could fill us in on the story behind it, I'd only be guessing. It's called an Illusion, sound familular, deception illusion, get it.

Cheers for that. Re the shrimp type lure, yes looks the same as your one. I might have to settle on calling it a "fishing lure" and put it in the tackle box

Mines gone Chief, but I was lucky enough to have Paul Kneller have a look at mine. He started filling me in on the background but was cut short. You may have been there in the background, went a bit silly at the time. I never really got the full story.

I am thinking not (but happy to be shown I am wrong  ) as it has a different bib connection and tow point. The Pegron pic I have found has the Halco type bib connection and the tow point is different. I think the Pegron has a slightly more pronounced hump to the back as well. To be honest I think it is identical to a deception exept the eyes are not quite right (pupil size too small)

Is it actually plastic?

You can't see the hook hangers from the pics, are they screw in or figure 8?

They are not twisted wire. They sit under the paint but look like screw in type heads to them. There is a line that runs along the top and bottom of the lure from nose to tail so assume plastic.

Could the purple one be a Whitmore Cray?

I dont think so. Here is a Whitmore. They generally have a small hole in front of the tow point which is where he held a few sheets together when cutting out bibs. Also the bibs on the witmores are quite thin and flexable unlike this purple one.

Whitmores have the little hole in the bib, which is the centering hole to cut the bib nice and round. And ten at a time.
Good thinking outside the square Aussiebasser.

No idea, but if this is an Illusion (and I will take it down to Paul to see) it has a different bib connection than the Pegron shown above.

Yep, found out the story today as well from Paul Kneller. I think I will keep it just for the story behind it. Paul is under the beoief that they may have started making them again. Can anyone confirm?

Alistair,
The most recent owners of Strike Zone, have been starting to sell the existing stock, so I guess that might be the reason they are popping up again. The previous owner sold after only a couple of months of ownership, and the one before that seemed to concentrate on the more mainstream lures in the range(Cicada's, Phsycho's). I have used the Illusions mainly the nipper size and while they do work, they don't have the appeal of the originals.....not that I am swimming them any more either lol

Today I procured 6 lures identical although in different colours to the ones above, they have a small sticker under the bib which reads " R&J Lures ".

Can anyone shed some light on this ?

If you procured them I would say with that sticker they would be "Rightfully James's"

Sorry not much help

Have you got a pic of them, on a ruler would be good for the boys in the know for QLD lures.
