Mercury GC BREAM Super Series- Re-schedule Idea

Post by Simon Goldsmith » Thu Jan 27, 2011 9:03 am

Guys,

A lot of anglers have been asking us about a date for the Gold Coast Super Series re-schedule.

We've been working on some different ideas about what to do with this event, given this opportunity.

Here's what we've come up with.

Tournament Dates: 25-28 August (in conjunction with the Brisbane Boat Show)
Format: 4-day Super Series.
• All anglers fish Thursday and Friday - weigh-in at Horizon Shores.
• Top 10 boaters and non-boaters fish Saturday - weigh-in at the show. Champion non-boater crowned.
• Top 10 boaters fish Sunday. Super Series Champion crowned. Wins the Aussea Resources perpetual trophy for the year (from the Boat Show Invitational).
Arena: Exactly the same as the standard Gold Coast events.
• Weigh-ins live streamed x 4 days.

Comments?

I know that there's an extra day off work required, but the trade-off is a lot more publicity opportunities.

I thinks thats a great idea , But I know alote of people like myself and others who work in the marine area have to work at the Boat show every year as this is the major boat show for Qld.
Over the last couple years I am sure ABT changed the date for this reason becasue there were alote of people saying they could do it becasue it as to close to the show .

Only other suggestion owuld be to open up the Saturday a bit more - perhaps 15, time allowing of course.

I dont care where, when or how,, I just need a date, so I can book holidays ASAP.

The only downside is guys that work at the boat show might not be able to fish.

Kills two birds with the one stone though, Great idea.

We usually only have 45 mins to an hour to get the anglers through. On the Sat we'll have 10 boats (20 bags) to weigh, and with backing in boats and dealing with the OHS regs at the show it would be close to impossible to expanded it out to 15 boats (30 bags). We're usually running over time as it is weighing in only ten bags.

It'll be a great event if we go ahead with it all. I can't wait.

Will this comp be replacing the BIBS or run in conjunction with it?

I like the extra day/top 10 for the non-boaters. Have you thought about introducing this into other super series events as well?

The extra day off will make it hard for some people to attend, but it would be a great test for those boaters who do enter and make it through to the final rounds. You may need to hand out some no-doze to the top 10 so they can survive the road trips though... and some travel calm for the fish :)

WOW SOUNDS GREAT, BUT A 4 DAY COMP PLUS PREFISH. 1 X EXTRA DAY OFF = $350.00 + ACCOMODATION/MEALS/BEERS= $80.00 + IF YOU MAKE TOP 10 FUEL IN BOAT 1 X EXTRA DAY = $60.00 + FUEL IN CAR TO AND FROM JACOBS WELL TO BOAT SHOW WEIGH-IN X 2 DAYS =$? ALL THESE EXTRA EXPENSES MAKES FOR AN ALLREADY OUT OF REACH COMP FOR SOME. WILL THE PAYOUTS COMPENSATE FOR THE EXTRA COSTS, " NO PROBALLY NOT ". PERSONALLY I LIKE THE IDEA BUT SOME MIGHT FIND IT HARD WITH THE EXTRA DAY. WONT AFFECT ME ANYWAY BECAUSE I USSUALLY FINISH 11 TH "HA HA ". ( MAY STRUGGLE FOR NUMBERS APPART FROM LOCALS ).

Good idea for exposure of the comp but will certainly make doing this a lot more expensive for those who make the top ten ( not likely myself) and don't have costs covered by sponsors. I hate to sound negitive but the costs are starting to add up. Like i said, good idea and good time of year.

Sensational idea! top time of the year, great for exposure. Great for a qualifier to get this exposure in QLD! Gives the average angler a chance to get on a big stage.

My thoughts -

Make it just a three day comp, Fri, Sat, Sun. Four days is too long, and its difficult for most people to get three days off work.

Everyone fishes Friday & Saturday, out of Horizon Shores. Sunday - the top 10 - 15 Boaters and Non-boaters fish final day, and weigh in at Boat Show.

Rather than two days of short weigh in sessions (45mins) try to convince BIBS organisers to allow ABT 1.5 hrs on the sunday, to get 10 or 15 Boaters and Non Boaters through the weigh-in in one session. I think it would be great for the spectators to see the Non-boaters weigh-in and speak, to show how its a great way to get into the sport and learn about breaming.

All past comps held in conjunction with boat shows, just shows off the elite level of the sport with the most expensive boats - which turns many off the sport. At the last Tackle and Tinnie Show, Wayne Young's talk on catching whiting drew a much bigger crowd than the QLD Open Bream Weigh-in......

Three days and one Boat Show weigh-in is easier logistics for competitors and organisers...

However you run it, I'll be keen to support it,

Matt

Love it. We'll miss the BIBS though...
What about letting 15 or 20 boaters through to the third day, but only allowing the top ten bags to be weighed in on stage. Have some scales at the ramp or something... Just have to pretend to be surprised on stage when your bag weight comes up! Just a thought.

Just a thought.

What if you held the Gold Coast event at the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show Instead of Brisbane Boat show . This would keep the comp on the Gold Coast , instead of everybody driving to Brisbane . And therefore you can still run the Brisbane comp . As far as exposure for the sponsers the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show pulls around 3 to 4 times more people than the Brisbane Boat Show. Because Sanctuary Cove B/S is on the water you may be able to do an on water weigh in.

It may-be too late to organise it for this year . I haven't checked if it conflicks with other comp dates but may-be think about it for next year , as exposure at the Sanctuary Cove B/S would be massive.

Just a thought .
cheers
Scott.
