Pre-Fish ban rule query?

Post by DaveW » Sun Aug 14, 2011 11:30 pm

Howdy,

Dave's curly questions Number 47b :P

We all know how the pre-fish ban works. I seem to recall reading somewhere about receiving information about a waterway and the legalities involved but can't find it for the life of me.

What happens if you adhere to the pre-fish ban requirements, have a friend that isn't in the tournament who fishes during the ban, then that friend comes out with you on the allowed pre-fish day to show you around?

My gut says it's not the done thing but is this allowable?

DW,

Agreed - allowable by the current rules, but not the done thing.

I rang my mate who skis on the basin to ask him what the water temp was while the prefish ban was in place......Have i done the wrong thing?
The person who wasn't in the tournament also recieved phone calls from a couple of anglers asking him how the basin was fishing.....Good on them for knowing someone who's been out.
Prefish day belongs to the Anglers, what ever advice or guidance one can get to maximise his/her chances at catching fish should be taken advantage of.

I hear what you're saying Wal but isn't the spirit of these events to have fun and do well, not be so cut throat to achieve a result?

Potentially, I could have chartered Bay and Basin to fish the place everyday in all spots, take sounder images, compile and report on the information, then come out with me on the pre-fish.

I just don't think it's a fair thing to do.

Yes Dave it's all about having fun, doing well is a bonus though, as fishing has a fair degree of luck attatched to actually catching.

I've heard of anglers hiring guides for a prefish before the bans are in place, bloody smart move and money well spent in my opinion.
What's so cut throat about that?

Would this issue have been raised if you had caught fish in another area? No i reckon.

Are you doing the bream fishing community any favours by going for blood over this issue? No i reckon.

We all have different opinions of fair, and i'm of the opinion that you have been anything but.

Apologies Wal - Since I was critisised for raising concerns elsewhere about an ABT event I thought this was the way to go, looks like I can't get it right either way??

Like I said elsewhere, this has got nothing to do with me and how I went, more to do with how others portray themselves.

If it wasn't someone you know involved would you be saying anything at all?

I'm not targeting anyone, not 'going for blood' and please tell me where I've been unfair - I would've expressed the same disapointment no matter who it was.

No problem - If the facts are different to what I said I'll happily be corrected.

Maybe a ruling needs to be put fourth in the future as respect to all to make things clear. If no rule has been broken, I can't see a problem.

It would be hard or pretty much impossible
To stop all private information to be handed out
Via mates etc or even charged/disqualified for doing this.

This old chestnut comes up every year with all the conspiracy theories attached. Personally I don't see why there still is a ban. Throwing every angler (Or most) on to the water the day before the tournament does nothing for the fishing. If locals can fish every day leading up to the comp, so be it. They probably won't want to fish on the friday, so there will be less boats racing around stinging all the areas.

For those travellers that can get a couple of extra days off, they can possibly prefish the Thursday and rest and prepare the boat on Friday with a couple of ales. Breaks up the fishing and makes it a lot more enjoyable, then going for three straight days. Even with structure about, bream are still a very transiant fish, so I see no great advantage keeping people off the water two weeks prior.

There have been prefish bans from the start, lets give it a year without.
