ABT CALENDARS 2013

ABT CALENDARS 2013

Guys,

I know a lot of you are waiting for the ABT Calendars to be released – we’ll put out the confirmed ABT BREAM and BASS dates at the conclusion of the BREAM Grand Final.

But, as a taste, here’s where the BREAM and BASS Tours will visit in 2013.

BASS Pro
• Lake Glenbawn
• Lake St Clair
• Boondooma Dam
• Somerset Dam
• Somerset Dam (Megabucks)
• Cania Dam (Grand Final)

BREAM Tour
• Glenelg River, SA. (date claimer – 19-20 January, 2013).
• Mallacoota Inlet, VIC.
• Hawkesbury River, NSW.
• Sydney Harbour, NSW (Australian Open with the Rose Hill Boat Show).
• Gippsland Lakes, VIC.
• Derwent River, TAS.
• Blackwood River, WA.
• Clarence River, NSW.
• Gold Coast, QLD.

• 2013 Classic Championship – Mallacoota, VIC.
• 2013 BREAM Grand Final – Gippsland Lakes, VIC.
BREAM GRAND FINAL
The BREAM Grand Final field will be reduced to 40 boats (rather than 50) for the 2013 event. Meaning that there will be four (4) guaranteed spots per event for each qualifier and the remaining 8 spots coming from the AOY points table. As per 2012, all declined spots will be filled from the AOY list.
There will be no major changes to Qualifier event structure, entry fees or AOY points determination.

BREAM CLASSIC CHAMPIONSHIP
The BREAM Grand Final might be harder to get into, but the Classic Championship may well be easier for you. It’s turning from a performance-based to a participation-based model.
Here’s who’ll be able to fish it:
• Winners of an ABT Affiliated events.
• BREAM Classic Organisers.
• Anglers from QLD, NSW, VIC, ACT, WA who have fished 4 affiliated ABT Classics.
• Anglers from TAS, SA who have fished 3 affiliated ABT Classics.
This will allow anglers to plan their end-of-year trips and maybe get to experience a Championship where they may not have had the opportunity in previous years.

We’re looking forward to hosting plenty of BREAMers in the upcoming season-ending events – there’ll be $11,000 worth of gear given away at the briefing of the BREAM Classic Championship on Friday night!

Cheers,

Steve Morgan

Thanks for the early notice Steve, looks like some road trips planned for me...

Are the events in order through the year?

That'd be a pretty good guess.

?

Steve,

just to clarify, it is not a point earned system. Just pay for or enter four comps and your in the GF?
no need to turn up realy, enter four cheaper comps, then go pre fish Coota all year.

i might book accomadation now.

is there a numbers cap on the GF or a is a 130 plus field expected.

Tony,

Correct, but you'll be surprised at the numbers of people who don't like to travel too far from home.

No cap - Mallacoota fishes pretty big in November, as we saw when the GF was there.

Derwent looks like it will be at a fun time......cold lol
if that's the case it will be interesting to see how everyone adapts.

Steve,

Would it not be fairer to hand down declined spots to the next best placed people at each event? They are the ones who have spent their own time and money to fish that particular event (and in many cases peoplle have travelled interstate or long distances to do so) in hope of a qualification spot. Most of us can't afford the time or money to tour around the country as much as we would like to, fishing lots of events to have a place on the AOY list.

Why the change?

Steve,

Just wondering why you are reducing the numbers for the Bream Grand Final, but opening up numbers for the Classic Grand Final?

I think that format should work well, its the same as this season with one less qf spot for abt events, and the idea i'm assuming is to make the bream series the premier events? And so they should be harder to qualify in?
Steve by classic events do Bets, Gamma etc come under this banner or only Vic bream classics, Sussex inlet bream classic etc? Cheers Gillie

Good questions Gillie! Interesting, Probably only specific rounds will count. Would be interesting if they all count. Looking forward to Steve's response

Gillie, Bets gives three places per round towards the Classic Grand Final. Thats all in the financial arrangement between Bets and ABT.

Hey Mango,
Yeah I realise that, but from what Steve said, you only have to enter 4 classic events to make the classic Gf, so i'm wondering what counts as a classic? As you said bets are a qualifier, so does 4 entries of bets rounds give you qualification regardless of the results?

"4 affiliated ABT Classics"
I'd say it includes BETS/Gama/etc. as affiliated events

How it was explained to me,

if you enter 4 BETS or 4 Gamas or 4 of any ABT affiliated events like Vic Classic your in the GF.

eg fish 2 x BETS and 2 x Gamas and your in the GF, even if you come last in all events.

so you could find the four closest comps enter 4 of them and your off to the GF.
saving on travel as well

Gillie as others have stated you can enter 4 Bets events and your off to the Classic GF if you wish to go, or you can do what Tony said and fish 4 cheapies and come last in each (thats what he does best....LOL) and your still off to the Classic GF but lets face it there's no self satisfaction in that. Or you can fish all the Bets series and qualify for the Bets GF as you have done in the past and hopefully pick up some serious cash and prizes along the way in the best series on the Classic Trail.

I might open a hotel in Coota, there's going to be 300 boaters needing accommodation near November next year.

Hey Gillie, confirmed by ABT staff that if you enter any 4 out of a possible 6 rounds offered by the BETS Road Show you get an automatic invite to the 2013 ABT Classic Grand Final despite your teams result. See you in December.

Sorry - have missed this thread for some reason (maybe it was 9 days in a boat).

It's exactly as posted. The individual GF will be harder to get into (although the top 4 from each event will still get an direct invite), and declined entries will be offered to those who have supported the tour via AOY points. This year, anglers filling declined spots got in only fishing 2 events. I assume that bar will be raised to three in 2013.

As a trade-off, the Classic Championship will be easier to get into - and more importantly, it'll be easier to plan your trip from further out. For most anglers a trip to any Classic Championship is a big deal and the more lead time you have to plan it the better.

Any ABT affiliated teams event will count towards your tally for qualification (if you haven't already got in by winning one). In 2013, here's the events that'll count (current at time of posting):

• GTS and GTS/Hobie events.
• BETS Events.
• GCSFC Dash for Cash and Easter Classic.
• Port Mac BREAM Classic
• NSW BREAM Classic (run by Al Loftus and the Supermodel)
• Vic BREAM Classics.
• Tas BREAM Classics.
• SABT Events.
• WA BREAM Classics.
• Sussex Inlet BREAM Classic.

As you know the old Squidgy Southern BREAM Series has been replaced by the GTS/Hobie southern events - which are affiliated.

Get planning - who doesn't want to go to Coota in November 2013! You'll probably be off the water in time to see the Melbourne Cup....

Cheers,
