Bass electrics 2012

Will the bass electrics and the kayak comps be held on the same day and venues next year or will they both be run as separate entities

I heard a rumour that you wont have to worry about the kayaks this year?

Thanks for the response and good to see the final back at Hinze again probable a good move splitting up kayaks and outboards for safety issues alone

Ian what is your issue with the kayaks? I compete in a handful of BE's each year and I have never had a safety issue with the boaters.

The issue I have is basically if some form of collision occurs between two boats, the smaller boat will come off much worst with possible loss of fishing rods, tackle and or personal injury.I have fished the Bass Electric for 10 years now I have witnessed some very impressive minor accidents and lots of near misses the worst of being a boat suddenly veering off course and take out another competitors front electric motor with the bow of his boat if this had been a small kayak it may have been a different story. Alot of these boat are steered from the front and the rear motor turned on and off by walking to the back of the boat and turning the throttle leaving the front motor to control the boat sometimes not that well! Although motor breaking collisions are not that common minor bumps and scrapes are more common. Just this year before the start at Clarrie Hall comp I heard a boat lost control leaving the boat ramp area and veered off into the lily and weed.
This isn't a gripe against kayak anglers, in most sports their are weight and size classes for a reason.

Is Hinze still NO PETROL MOTOR on the boat ? If so its not that fair to people that can't remove there motors !
What is the deal with batteries at Hinze ? Do they have to be sealed ?

Not much point doing the year , if you can't get on the dam for the final with a petrol motor on the back. Not much thought put into that one Simon.

Rhino, Just sell a couple of miller outfits and a few blades and jackalls ( sure you wouldn't notice them missing  ) and get an electric boat. :P

Paul Hinze is electric motors only with no petrol motors on the boat but standard batteries are OK

I've been running the comps at Clarrie Hall Dam for years..............Hasn't been a problem with no outboard aloud on this dam!

don't know about the Kayak events and what's happened to them.........But when they ran one at Clarrie Hall in conjunction with the Electric. It consumed the time of one person for the entire sign on and sign off with the photos on Steves computer and the tallying of the scores.
As the event organiser I know I would not have time to do the Kayak thing as well as the Electric organisation. So maybe until more people put up and help with the time things maybe will alter from year to year.

Hello Simon
Just a couple of quick thoughts.
1. Give there was only about 10 fish weighed at both Cressbrook round why are we now considering 3 rounds there this year, could we not have a round at Borumba? It’s mid-way for both the Wide Bay boys & SEQ boys.
2. I have to agree with elephrez1 regarding Maroon in the colder months, Maroon has been the start of the season for many a year now and it fishes better in Feb....
3. There appears to be a lot of consecutive weekends this year which can be taxing with work, family etc or is there just more rounds this year?
4. A round a Hinze would be great seeing the final is their?

All that said I can't wait for it all to start again...

Tony,

I for one am prepared to step up and look after Bass Kayak events for central NSW: Lostock, St Clair & Lake Lyell all being suitable for Kayak events. I have informed the ABT guys of this several times. They are time consuming I know, but once the system is stream lined, no more then the electric events. I fished both McDonald and Clarie Hall this year and loved both events. I would also assist in running events further afield as well, when I am in a possition to attend. As I said at Clarie, these events are just the ticket and to stay, the kayakers do need to step up. I am prepared to do just that.

I have fished electric rounds in 2010 from my kayak prior to the livewell issue and also fish the Bass Pro events, but I find the kayak events a pure form of fishing and one I personally feel should remain on the ABT calendar.

Works both ways Andy, not ALL can go because of restrictions. Just because there's a motor on the back doesn't mean it hasn't been set up for ELECTRIC events. We all compete with the chance of making the convention, it would be a shame to just single out a few.

Is there likely to be Hinze Round/s added to the calendaras well as the GF?
Also what happened to Lenthalls? A recent visit says things are on the improve up there on the bass front at least.

Simon, What's the chance of having a couple more Bass Electrics north of Bris Vegas? As Barry said, things are on the improve at Lenthalls, BP can only get better and Borumba is fishing well. We have plenty of keen anglers in Bundaberg willing to have a go. I think within 3 hours is far enough to drive for a weekend.

It would appear that the rules in regard to the set up and control of some of the electric boats needs to be reviewed. Not having proper and effective control of a vessel whilst underway is an offence under maritime law.

Perhaps ABT should look at this serious safety issue, before there is a serious accident. Too late once one occurres. May be the case that if the bow mount is to be used then they have to be wireless remote controlled so the skipper can maintain control of the craft at all times.

we could always get rid of the wivenhoe rounds as its fished very poorly since the floods let all the bass down into the brissy river.
has anyone fished lake kurwongbah recently.

also another maroon or hinze round instead of cressy would be cool. never been to lenthalls but i'd go to that if there was one.
