Grand Final Review
The 2010 Squidgy Southern Bream Series Grand Final was held on the weekend.

40 boating teams and 25 kayak anglers earned their positions in the starting line up by fishing the qualifying rounds that were held between Tuross and the Hawkesbury River.

Day 1 saw competitors battle it out on St. Georges Basin. In the morning, conditions were still but by the end of the day dark clouds were moving in and the wind had blown from every possible direction.

On day 1 a total of 147 bream crossed the scales with a total weight of 90.65kgs. Jarrod Humphrey and Marty Hasler of team Breamaholics led the charge for the boaters. They weighed a full 5 fish bag for 3.855kg which placed them only 65 grams ahead of team Culburra Bait and Tackle.

For the kayaks Jason Price weighed a full 3 fish bag at 1.88kg, 155grams ahead of the ever consistent Stuart Dunn of team Sailing Scene/Lox rods.

The Damiki Big Bream was something special indeed, Adrian Van of team Fishing World weighed in what’s being called the biggest bream weighed in at a bream tournament on mainland Australia! Adrians monster bream weighed a massive 2.51kg it was 46cm fork length with a set of shoulders that had to be seen to be believed. Well done Adrian on a truly remarkable catch.

Day 2 saw the Squidgy show move north to the Shoalhaven River. Greenwell Point was the start location. This end of the river has oyster racks, creeks, moored boats, weed beds, rock walls, you name it, it’s there for bream to inhabit. It rained all day with wind from the south making conditions a little miserable. 71 bream were weighed in from the river at a total weight of 39.875kgs.

Alan Loftus and Ross Cannizzaro of team Shimano/Evinrude weighed a very respectable bag of bream. The boys fished Broughton creek and their 5 bream weighed 3.425kg.

Brian Rutledge of team Pinniped managed the heaviest bag for the kayak field on

day 2, he had 2 legal bream for a total weight of 1.055kg.

Day 2’s Damiki Big Bream was caught by Scott Mallafant of team Shellharbour Tackle Shop, a few came close but 1.14kg was enough for Scott to score himself a swag of Damiki’s finest.

After the 2 days of competition team Shimano/Evinrude came out on top with a full limit of 10 bream with an overall weight of 6.765kg. The boys done their sponsors proud, thanking all those who’ve been supporting them.

Jason Price finished on top of the kayak field, he weighed in 5 of a possible 6 fish with a combined weight of 2.765kg.

Well that’s it for the year, congratulations to all those who qualified and fished the Squidgy Southern Bream Series Grand Final, thanks also to the competition sponsors for their support.

Next year’s shaping up to be a big one, bring on 2011!
