Post by Simon Goldsmith » Mon Nov 22, 2010 3:42 pm

Breamers,

We've bitten the bullet and decided to give the Oz Open an overhaul. In the end you wont know what it's like until you try it, so we're going to give it a go.

Here're the details.

The Daiwa BREAM Australian Open has been renovated to provide an opportunity usually reserved for anglers fishing the final day of a BREAM Super Series or BREAM Grand Final event. This year, it's an individual event. You versus fish on one of Australia's greatest tournament arenas.

Featuring a 100% cash payback, fantastic prizes from Daiwa and the ability to earn BREAM Rankings points at the same rate as in the Grand Final, we're sure that the best of the best breamers will be keen to test themselves. Man versus fish!

I must say that I am really dissapointed about this, the fact that I had already organized holidays to enable me to fish this event and now I am unable too due to the fact of not owning a boat , I understand the need to change things up, however my personal feeling is that you should have made people aware to a potential change alot earlier than this, I really enjoyed the tournament last year, heck even led after the first day, now I am being denied the opportunity at the last minute to participate, good luck to all those competing, cheers Justin.

But on here it says 20-22nd.

@SB,

Dates now corrected - my mistake - had the 2010 mixed up with the 2011 one.

Cheers,

Great decision guys.
If it's a success will it be expanded?

Hi Steve / Simon,

great idea - look forward to seeing how it all pans out.

Quick question - seeing it is an individual event similar to that of a qualifying round or Super Series (minus the NB), will the top 10% qualify for the GF ?

Apologies if this has already been asked in another thread.

Billy K,

Aus Open is a stand-alone event - not part of the Qualifier series.

So no ranking points apply right?

Dave,

We were thinking that Individual = Individual rankings points qualify.

Just like all ABT teams classics now attract rankings points.

Hey Steve, Simon

Heres a idea for you, Why dont this year we make the Qld Bream open a single person event too? Run it the same as the Aus open .
Run it the same start and rules as Gold Coast super series .

I think i mentioned it previously we'll trial the format with the Oz Open. Assess it then make a decision from there on whether we'll expand upon it.

The event information sheet is now online as a PDF. Competitors make yourself fully aware of the safety gear requirements especially the new lifejacket rules in NSW. http://www.bream.com.au/abt/2010/Ausopeninfo10.pdf

All safety gear will be checked on the first morning, if you're missing any of it, or any of it is not working you wont be able start the tournament.

This is your heads up so you can get prepared.
