Lake McDonald BASS Electric April 12th - Postponed till 24/5

Post by chris byrnes » Tue Apr 07, 2009 10:05 am

Due to extremely heavy recent rain, Lake Mcdonald is currently in flood condition, which may make it unsafe for the proposed BASS Electric Event April 12th. With rain predicted for the Easter weekend, exacerbating the situation, the decision has been made, in tandem with SeqWater, to postpone the event till Sunday May 24th. If you have any further queries please contact ABT on 07 3387 0888.

So is it postponed or cancelled?

The event for this weekend is most likely postponed to May 24, but we'll confirm that if the organisers can run it on the new date.

Apologies, but we couldn't get the thumbs-up ATM from the managers of the water body due to the recent conditions.

The lake isn't closed, however ... so feel free to fish there if you like ... we just can't get permission to have a tournament there on that day with recent conditions.

Cheers,

I'm fckin'ropeable!!!

It's a sad day when our local elec comps fall foul of some gobshite public servant, who has probably never been to Lake Macdonald, that decides against issuing a 'permit' to run a small comp because of a bit of rain. FFS!

Total beaurocratic bollox!!!!

Maybe next year, all permits should be aquired before dates are set.

Mal,

Thanks for articulating what we were thinking!

In a perfect world, they'd all be done on Jan 1. In some cases, though, they only assess the applications a few weeks out and give the nod then - regardless of when the application was submitted.

Cheers,

Bit of a turn around from when I left, where comps where looking at being canceled because of a lack of water, rather than an excess of it.

Hey Mal,

I hear that you have to be careful around those Dam/weir walls when there is water going over them!

Cheers,

Matt

What height was the water at its peak going over the wall?
And wonder how many fish it took with it again.
Bring back the drought, not the flooding rain. We've had enough here on the Sunshine Coast!!

Steve, no prob, I can quite articulate when the need arises. :P

Bill, I don't think many fish would have gone over. Wrong time of year for the fish to be swimmin' downstream.
It wasn't anywhere near as big as the last flood of 2 years ago when we lost all the big roe'd up fish.

Matt, if Mark or myself were to instruct anglers not to go, say, past the wooden jetty near the dam wall, or face disqualification, who would ignore the warning.
You can see the dam wall from the ramp. I think most bassers are a sensible lot.
But I personally, have failing eyesight around weirs. Trust you to throw that at me
Boat repairs are coming along slowly.

Paul, any good fishing in Thailand?

Mal you took the words out of my mouth with your comments on the situation !!
Bill I have heard the wall of water going over the wall was approx. 6 feet high !!
As Mal suggested not that many fish would have gone over as they have not started to school up down that end of the dam yeat. Although I have been catching a few smaller ( undersized fish out near the bubbler ) so maybe a couple would have gone ?? As a member of the stocking group we have a permit to fish in the exclustion zone so Sue and I may wonder down that way and try and catch them ?? then put them back in the top end of dam again ( as a stocking group we have had 4 fishes below the wall, caught over 320 bass ( guessing 280 undersized ) which have gone back up.
Paul
PS - Mal is the 24/05/09 OK with you ??
Still Trying
