CRIME STOPPERS FAMILY FISHING COMPETITION

(13-14/11/2004)

The Crime Stoppers Family Fishing Competition 2004 was held at Wivenhoe Dam on the weekend of the 13 and 14 November 2004 and was hailed a great success by the competition organisers Jason Crowther and Peter Kruger.

30 competitors fished the two days with a huge number of fork tail cat fish taken on lures. 3 Bass were caught in hard conditions. The competition winner was Garry Fitzgerald, President of the Somerset Wivenhoe Fish Stocking Association (SWSFA). Garry was presented with the winners prize of a high quality 6 piece Talon fly fishing rod and reel and other fishing acessories for a 32 cm Bass. Dale Sinclare was runner up with a 31 cm Bass.

Every competitor fishing went home with great prizes. All enjoyed a free BBQ on the Saturday night, with plenty of festive drinks and good yarns.

Sergeant Jason Crowther of Lowood Police said, "all monies raised will be donated to Crime Stoppers, Police Legacy and the Somerset Wivenhoe Fish Stocking Association. The weekend competition was a great success, it bought people to the Esk Shire that had lived in Brisbane all their lives and never experienced the beauty of the Brisbane Valley and Lake Wivenhoe"

"The competition would not have been as successful without the assistance of SWFSA, SEQ Water, Esk Shire Council, Lowood State Emergency Service and the major sponsors of Ipswich Bait and Tackle, Fernvale Thrifty Link Hardware, MTC Borallon Correctional Centre, and Gatton Home Brew Camping and Fishing"
