Weather fair ….. Results reasonable

Saturday dawned as good as it gets, and the twenty two keen members of the Caloundra Power Boat Fishing Club set out after a six week break to hopefully replenish their freezers with some quality fish from the Passage and off shore. The winds which came in on Saturday night and continued into Sunday put a dampener on results and only our past president Alton Kempster braved conditions to launch his boat on Sunday morning.

The A grade result was a closely fought out contest with some excellent numbers and weights on display at the Sunday weigh in at the Caloundra Power Boat Club. Paul Kenderick, with a close to maximum overall bag of thirty fish, was the winner with some quality whiting, bream and gar landed from the beaches to the north of the bar. Barry Purcell with his catch of mostly bream was the runner up. Tom Kirk and Keith Schulz both had some nice fish as did Col Stumer with his maximum bag which included a couple of nice luderick.

The ladies competition is developing into a very close contest for the ladies championship with seven of our partners fishing over the weekend. Barbara Jeffery was the eventual winner with her mixed bag of bream and whiting while Dot Hudson was runner up with her catch from the Mooloolah River. Heather Kenderick and Lyn Thompson also had good results and it was great to see new members, Debbie and Roy Rosenow fish, with both troubling the scales.

The B grade contest resulted in a tied result with the spoils being split between Bruce Trethan and Rod Jeffery with some very nice whiting, bream and tarwhine. Ian McKinney caught the only tailor for the weekend as did Rod Hudson with his flathead.

Joe Nealon fished Currimundi on Saturday morning for a great result of close to fifty kgs of yellowfin tuna, bonito and grass sweetlip. Saturday night was never so good, relaxing his weary muscles with a couple of well earned drinks.

The next competition will be the all night bream outing on Saturday 14th June followed by the June comp over the weekend of 21st and 22nd June. The AGM will be held following the general meeting on Monday evening 30th June. New members, prospective new members and visitors are most welcome to attend our competitions and meetings.
