Mixed Results for Power Boat Club Fishers

The winds were blowing strongly from the south-west early on Saturday morning when the thirty-three members plus our competitive junior angler from the Caloundra Power Boat Club fishing club hit the water from 5.00am onwards to fish the last competition for the year prior to the club’s presentation night to be held in July.

The A grade competitors all weighed in with some good individual catches with Teddy Sheather and Kerry Cuskelly each gaining the same points with their catches of excellent quality bream and in Kerry’s case, a good size flathead caught from the surf at Kawana early on Sunday morning. (The club’s boundaries stretch from Noosa to the Bribie bridge). Keith Schulz and Paul Kenderick weighed in with some great bream and whiting and Col Stumer completed the year in style with his maximum bag of thirty fish for an overall weight of 8.2klgs.

What a great competition the ladies are having with eleven braving the far from comfortable conditions we experienced on Saturday morning. Heather Kenderick complemented her catch of nice bream with some gar caught out from Moffat Beach on Sunday morning to be the overall winner from Glenis Purcell with a competitive bag of bream, whiting and tarwhine. Lee-Anne Gray, fishing with partner Paul Cannon, weighed in some great bream averaging close to 500 gms from their favourite spot in the Mooloolah River.

The B grade competition was a tight affair between the fourteen men who competed with Leon Thompson being the eventual winner. His catch included a mother of a grunter bream measuring 40cms. Bob Gibbons was a well deserved runner up with his mixed bag of whiting, bream and flathead caught Saturday afternoon. Ian McKinney landed an excellent flathead measuring 67cms caught on his sleeper loaded with a good size pilchard while fishing for whiting in the shallows out from the Power Boat Club.

Jake Alley was our winner in the junior division landing a great flathead along with some whiting and bream. His younger brother is set to give him some stiff competition when he joins the club next month.

The next competition will be held over the weekend of 5th and 6th July while the next general meeting will be held at the Power Boat Club on Monday 30th June to be followed by the fishing club’s AGM with all members encouraged to attend. Visitors and prospective new members are most welcome to attend.
