Surat Family Secret Weight Fishing Competition 2002
(8-9/6/2002)

I am certainly glad it is all over and done with for another year! The weather certainly wasn't kind to us this year and it kept a few people away, however, we still had 198 seniors and 65 juniors nominate. So we are grateful to those tough anglers out there!

Sadly fish numbers over the 2 days were very low with only 25 Golden Perch, 20 Dew, 2 Cod and even our friend the European carp was sulking with only 23 caught!

However the Aussie spirit kept everyone cruising. With the Bar and BBQ helping to keep the cold out.

The fireworks display on Saturday night put on by Sparky's Fireworks was exceptional. I am sure he gets better every year. The crowd were spread up and down the river and you could hear them showing their appreciation for miles.

Our one man entertainer Butch Smith from Roma kept everyone bopping around and even though the crowd was down in numbers they made up for it with their enthusiasm!

The NRMA Duck race was certainly on a fast track, with the nice little breeze we had. So it was over in quick time the winners were as follows;

$350 Lauren Fisher from Charleville

$150 Joan Turner from Boggabilla

$50 - Robyn Bayly from Surat

So a big thank you to NRMA for your sponsorship!!

The fish numbers were very low as I mentioned however we had 2 large Cod one measuring 71cm and weighing 6280g the other measuring 1100cm and weighed in at 22kg. It was a sight to see.
